What Dawn of War 4 is

KING Art Games, the Bremen studio behind Iron Harvest, built Dawn of War 4 as a modern take on the first Dawn of War from 2004: territory capture, squad management and base building.

Deep Silver revealed the game at gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19, 2025, after four years of development at KING Art.

Sync kills are back and extended to every fight: the Combat Director system stitches custom melee animations for every unit in every engagement, not only the killing blow.

More than a hundred different units and buildings ship at launch, many with swappable weapons, and a Painter tool lets you recolour your army. The Dawn of War 4 units database lists every one named so far.

Story and setting

The campaign is set on Kronus about 200 years after Dark Crusade, cut off on the wrong side of the Great Rift. Black Library author John French wrote the story.

Each faction has its own campaign, and the four feed one larger story: Cyrus and Jonah Orion come to rebuild the Blood Ravens and find a threat to the whole sub-sector.

Under the sands of Kronus an Adeptus Mechanicus expedition finds a Necron complex, first taken for a tomb, then for a prison. That secret pulls the Orks, the Mechanicus and the Necrons into the fight.
